Ceres, the goddess of agriculture, grain crops and fertility, is tormented by a recurring dream in which her daughter, Proserpina, disappears into nothingness.The goddess soon discovers that it is not a dream but a premonition. Proserpina is in fact kidnapped by the god of the Underworld, who takes her with him to the afterlife. Overwhelmed with anger and pain, the benevolent goddess stops her good work on earth: fields dry up, seeds no longer sprout and a terrible famine starts...
